Speaker 1:

Welcome to Sustainability Unveiled, your podcast destination for the latest news and insights on sustainable initiatives shaping our world today. I'm your host, ecovoice, and in today's episode we uncover a groundbreaking partnership between two industry giants Mir and IKEA, as they join forces to revolutionize electric vehicle infrastructure in Germany. Our featured article today highlights the collaborative effort between Mir and IKEA to establish one of the largest retail-based EV charging networks in Germany. Over the next three years, more than 1,000 charging points will be installed across 54 IKEA locations nationwide, marking a significant milestone in the realm of sustainable mobility and environmental stewardship. This partnership is not just about convenience. It's about aligning with broader sustainability goals. The initiative resonates with the European Union's Green Agenda, particularly the ambitious Fit for 55 package aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030. By providing over 1,000 EV charging points powered by 100% renewable energy, mir and IKEA are driving us towards a future with significantly reduced carbon footprints associated with transportation.

Speaker 1:

Christopher Thoner, ceo of Mer, emphasized the importance of accessibility in sustainable electric mobility. He sees this collaboration as a pivotal step towards establishing a robust position in the German market. Electric mobility plays a crucial role in the fight against climate change. Thoner noted, expressing his enthusiasm for the project's commencement. But what makes this partnership truly impactful is the shared commitment to sustainability between Mir and IKEA. Walter Kadnar, managing Director and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA Germany, highlighted their joint effort to enhance sustainable living. At IKEA, we want to improve people's everyday lives, kadnar stated, emphasizing the inclusivity of the initiative. Otto Loserth, managing Director of Mir in Germany, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the synergy between the company's values. Together, we combine the Scandinavian heritage by appreciating nature and taking care of it. Loserth remarked this partnership isn't just about Germany. It's about expanding sustainable infrastructure across Europe. Following a similar announcement in the United Kingdom in spring 2023, mir and IKEA are committed to leading the charge in developing last mile charging solutions, solidifying their roles as pioneers in sustainable electric mobility, with the first charging station expected in spring 2025,.

Speaker 1:
